Change in Political Dynamics if Gay Clergy are Public

Will the politics of culture wars change if more clergy are open about being gay? A Catholic priest told his Louisiana parish that he is gay.  What happens if more clergy from "conservative" or  "fundamentalist" religions go public?  

 

Father Jim Morrison's reason for telling his parishioners:

"I have counseled many students that were dealing with their sexual orientation ... I reassured these individuals of the unconditional love of God and encouraged them to live open and honest lives."

Morrison said at first, he excused himself from following his own advice, claiming that the disclosure could harm his congregation. But his thirst for honesty with his church members eventually won.
