"Estate, Tax and Charitable Planning for the LGBT Community" Thursday, October 25 at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.

Gay and Lesbian couples face special challenges in planning their estate, computing their fair share of taxes and planning their giving to charitable groups. To help LGBT people address this problem, a bevy of Episcopal groups are presenting “Estate, Tax and Charitable Planning for the LGBT Community” Thursday, October 25 at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.

Susan von Herrmann, an estate planning attorney with special expertise in assisting non-traditional families in avoiding unnecessary taxes while accomplishing their personal and charitable goals, will present the seminar. Admission to the seminar is $20 in advance (please call 415.869.7811) or $25 at the door.

Key topics to be addressed during the session include:

·                     How Estate Planning Can Protect Your Partner and Family

·                     Update on Laws Affecting Same Sex Couples

·                     Pro’s and Con’s of Registering as Domestic Partners

·                     Important Charitable Planned Giving and Tax Reduction Strategies

 “Estate, Tax and Charitable Planning for the LGBT Community” will begin at 5:15 p.m. with Evensong in the Cathedral with Men and Boys Choir and then continue at 6 with wine and hors douvres. Ms. Herrmann’s presentation is set to begin at 6:15. A question and answer period will conclude the evening.

Ms. Herrmann is an estate planning attorney with special expertise in assisting non-traditional families in avoiding unnecessary taxes while accomplishing their personal and charitable goals. Susan is an active Director of the Point Foundation, the leading LGBT scholarship fund in America, a member of the Grace Cathedral Planned Giving Committee and a partner at Fitzgerald Abbot & Beardsley, Oakland, CA.

“Estate, Tax and Charitable Planning for the LGBT Community” is a program of OASIS, The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of California, and the Gift Planning Office of the Episcopal Diocese of California. Co-sponsors include Grace Cathedral, Episcopal Charities, Episcopal Community Services, the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Bishop’s Ranch, St. Dorothy’s Rest, and the Clausen House.
