Bishop sparks controversy over gay holocaust comment

One of Scotland's leading churchmen has caused outrage by claiming Holocaust Memorial Ceremonies are no place for people who are gay.  Motherwell Bishop Joe Devine believes equality campaigners deliberately atttend the events and allign themselves with the Nazi atrocities to court sympathy.  The statement has sparked anger among gay rights groups, and holocaust survivors.

Six milion people died in the Holocaust. The majority were Jews, but Gypsies, the disabled, political activists and homosexuals were murdered too. The Bishop of Motherwell, Joe Devine, has sparked controversy, saying gay groups should not  mark events like Holocaust Memorial Day. He said: "It's a Jewish event why be involved in that? It's for sympathy. They think they're persecuted and they aren't."   Bishop sparks controversy over gay holocaust comment
