The Church's Sad Legacy in My Life

Pope Benedict XVI's visit this week has made me reflect on being gay and being raised Catholic, especially because it has been a few years now since I settled my lawsuit against the Catholic Church. I was abused by a priest when I was a kid in a junior seminary. At that time, I wanted to become a priest - it had been the only thing I really ever wanted to become. It was my childhood fantasy - doing good deeds every day and being close to God. My abuse came during the turbulent years when a boy changes into a man.
