A update from the CA Faith for Equality Organizing Committee

California Lesbian Couples Married Today

The "I Do's" begin today at 5:01pm when Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon marry in San Francisco, and Robin Tyler and Diane Olson marry in Beverly Hills. Robin's and Diane's ceremony will be led by CA Faith for Equality Organizing Committee member Rabbi Denise Eger.

What joy! What nachas!

Today we celebrate these two unions, and tomorrow we celebrate those of more gay and lesbian couples, whose commitments to one another will be recognized in legal marriages throughout California.

We struggled many years, but now is our time for blessing. See how Paul Waters and Kevin V are preparing for and sharing their blessing in today's LA Times article.

Enjoy today. Celebrate the moment. And take pride in our community.

To support the voice of faith communities in our continuing pursuit of happiness, contribute to California Faith for Equality.

A Prayer for This Day

With joy and love we celebrate the couples who will be married today. Grant them peace in their homes and love in their hearts that they might always create a place for faith in both.

Open our hearts to those who would protest our love and call us names. Guide us to be whole in our faith and know that their words are not God's.

May our covenants be blessed and our marriages honored. Let every court be called a house of marriage for all couples.

Grant us health, prosperity and peace on this day and forward.

Let us say, amen.
